Born to humble crafters out of Fort Sea Hold, L'marin once had dreams of becoming a Harper. His father, of course, had other dreams for L'marin, intending on apprenticing him as a tanner. Neither got their wishes - he was instead searched at the age of seventeen by dragonriders out of Fort Weyr and encouraged to come meet his fate out on the Sands there. Hesitant if only because his conservative father was discontented wth the idea of sending his son for a search, L'marin was not unwilling - and thus, he went. When he failed to impress the first time around, L'marin harbored a grudge against the new weyrlings, and while he could've left and returned to apprentice in a Craft, he opted to stay and stand for the next clutch, if only to prove that he could. And so it was there on the Sands soon after his eighteenth birthday that L'marin met his bronze Brunuth, and his life was well and truly changed.
Brunuth and L'marin were quite the pair, both full of bravado and ego and forever determined to prove something to somebody. Brunuth showed a significant aptitude for Searching too and just seemed to know who would Impress and who wouldn't; for several turns, about eighty-five percent of the candidates that he selected Impressed on their first try. But young up-and-coming bronzeriders can oft be seen as a threat to those comfortable in their ranks. Recently, Fort Weyr's Queen was set to rise and there were strong rumors that Brunuth would be the one to fly her - but a chance trade of junior golds with Igen Weyr gave the Weyrleader of Fort Weyr opportunity to send L'marin and Brunuth with them before he had his chance.
Now settled at Igen Weyr as a Wingrider, L'marin holds a strong grudge about being included in the trade. But the start of the Turn has new opportunities to prove oneself as a competent leader, which L'marin very much intends to do.
Tall with brown hair and eyes, L'marin is a decent-looking man in his early-30s, not stunningly handsome, but he's easy enough on the eyes. He tends to keep his beard trimmed, but it's always there, never seen clean-shaven, lending a few extra years to his appearance - so he seems a little older than he really is. His features are nice enough on the whole, though his nose has a "broken" look to it, as if had a bit of a mishap at some point. At 6'2" tall, with a physique that he obviously spends some effort to maintain, it's probably the height-and-build combination that make him remarkable more than his general looks.
